When creating an EDI column mapping
record you define the column names and types and in particular the order of the
columns in the import/export file.
Note: as there is no need to
"map" a source column to a destination column this process can also be
referred to as EDI column definitions rather than column mappings.
Creating an EDI Transfer record
involves three distinct steps. Firstly
you create the Transfer details, then the Mapping details and finally, the
Column details. Each task is
outlined below.
Create
the Transfer Details
1.
Select Maintain
®
EDI ® EDI Transfer
to invoke the EDI Transfer Properties
form.

The EDI Transfer Properties form details the ID, name, file type, transfer type,
target save directory and whether the transferred file is able to overwrite any
pre-existing files of the same name.
2.
Click on the Transfer
button to invoke a new entry line. The
TransferID
field will automatically populate on Close with a system generated unique
identifier.
3.
Enter a name for the transfer into the TransferName
field.
4.
Select the file type appropriate to the file to be transferred from the FileTypeID
field drop-down menu.
5.
Select the transfer type from to be used from the TransferTypeID
field drop-down menu.
6.
If appropriate, select the directory the transferred file is to be saved
into from the SaveDirectoryID
drop-down menu.
7.
Using the OverwriteSavedFile
check box indicate whether the file to be transferred is able to overwrite any
pre-existing files of the same name.
Create
the Mapping Details
1.
From within the EDI Transfer Properties
form, with the associated Transfer entry selected, click on the Mapping
button to invoke a new Mapping entry line.

The Columns entry line will ‘cascade’ under the selected Transfer entry
line. The MappingID
field will automatically populate with a system generated unique identifier on
Close.
2.
Select the record type for the file to be transferred from the RecordTypeID
field drop-down menu.
3.
Select the appropriate Table identifier from the TableID
field drop-down menu.
4.
If required, enter a WHERE condition into the WhereCondition
field.
Create
the Column Details
1.
From within the EDI Transfer Properties
form, with the associated Transfer/Mapping entry selected, click on the Columns
button to invoke a new Columns entry line.

The ColumnMapID
field will automatically populate with a system generated unique identifier on
Close.
2.
For each column to be transferred select the column identifier from the ColumnID
field and enter a sequence number into the ColumnSequence
field to indicate what order the column’s contents should be transferred.
3.
Using the ConversionID
field select the value to indicate the type of data conversion to be actioned.
4.
Check the DealerKey
check box if the column refers to the Dealer Key value to use for the transfer.
5.
Check the ControlBreak
check box if a Control Break applies to the column.
6.
Check the Counter
check box if a counter function applies to the column.
7.
Check the FileSequence
check box if a specified file sequence is applicable for the column. Only one
file sequence column applies to a specific column mapping. If more that one is
specified only the last column is referred to.
8.
Check the NoOutput
check box if if the column is not to be imported or exported.
9.
Click on the Close
button to save and close the EDI
Transfer Properties record.
