Why SLIK?

Data Processing & Database Integration

SLIK can be scheduled to perform 20 different tasks on the data flowing through an organisation. Integrate data from any ODBC based database. User-friendly graphical user interfaces enable operators with no programming skills to easily define and manage data interfaces.

Column Mapping & Table Mapping

Map data from selected columns in a database to selected columns in another database of a different structure. This includes the ability to perform custom data translations and formatting during the transfer. Transfer data between source (one or more) and destination database tables with identical structure. At times the source database may not have sufficient columns to provide a primary key within an interface. An Auto Number feature allows automatic numbering of records that ensure a unique primary key is provided in your destination database.

FTP Transfer (File Transfer Protocol)

SLIK is capable of performing FTP get/put/rename and remove commands based on a file pattern to remote hosts.

J.D.Edwards OneWorld Reports & Printing

SLIK allows you to submit OneWorld reports to remote servers in an interdependent fashion based on a schedule. SLIK takes control of OneWorld reports (UBE's) by allowing selected reports to be directed to selected printers. This is opposed to the default behaviour in OneWorld of only printing all reports at once and only to the default printer.

ODBC Query

SLIK provides a built in tool to execute a query direct to any ODBC based database.

Excel & Text File Integration

Excel files can be integrated. Text files can be integrated.

Iterate Collection

A very powerful feature in SLIK enables an operation to be executed multiple times using a replaceable variable dynamically retrieved from a database table. For instance you may want to run the same query on multiple databases. Rather than having to write the query for each database, you write one query and have it executed substituting the database name on each occurrence in the target database.

Execute Command

SLIK can call an external program and if required input can be redirected from a data file. Any output can also be saved to a log file or a text file. For instance, it is used at Fisher and Paykel to execute pkzip to compress files. These files are then emailed as attachments to a third party using the built in email operation.

Polled Queries

SLIK can be set up to test for the existence of data on a scheduled basis. When it finds that data it can then trigger other processes, such as but not limited to, sending an email, executing another program or updating a database. This feature is invaluable in avoiding constant checking of data looking for certain conditions or errors.

Scheduling

This facility tests for the existence of files, directories and computers on the network based on conditional logic. For example, you could have SLIK pinging a collection of hosts on a scheduled basis and if any host were not accessible SLIK would automatically email an alert.

Electronic Document Interchange (EDI)

SLIK has native support for processing structured text files. This lets you share data with trading partners using a user defined format (eg, CSV, XML, etc) to and from any ODBC accessible database.
